Blazers Drop 2-1 Decision At Houston

HOUSTON, Texas -- The UAB women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Houston on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium. With the loss, the Blazers fall to 0-2 in conference play and 3-7 overall while the Cougars improve to 1-1 in the league and 4-6 on the season.
"It was a hard fought game," head coach Harold Warren said. "We were pressing and we scored a goal, but we couldn't get the equalizer."
UAB trailed Houston 1-0 heading into the break after senior defender Stephanie Derieg scored for the Cougars in the second minute.
Houston forward Alexis Weaver added an insurance goal in the 58th minute of the contest.
UAB's Emma Smith found the back of the net behind Houston keeper Cami Koski in the 64th minute to cut the lead in half. It was the third goal of the season for the junior midfielder in as many matches.
Freshman goalie Katie Getzinger registered 11 saves for the Blazers.
UAB continues its four-game road stretch with game three at Conference USA opponent East Carolina on Friday, Sept. 30. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT.
