Sand Volleyball Continues Strong Play With Two Wins

RESULTS: UAB vs. FSU || UAB vs. Jacksonville || UAB vs. College of Charleston
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UAB sand volleyball team went a combined 9-1 against Jacksonville and College of Charleston, before falling to Florida State, 5-0, on Friday in the opening round of the Jacksonville Easter Tournament.
With two wins – one a 4-1 triumph against Jacksonville and the other a 5-0 victory over College of Charleston – the Blazers improve to 8-4 overall on the season.
Against the home standing Dolphins, UAB used a dominating 21-3, 21-6 win by Becca Howard and Sam Skinner over Becca Massip and Kylie Jacob along with a 21-19, 21-11 victory from Sam Serley and Alison Woods to roll to the 4-1 win.
The Blazers’ only loss against Jacksonville came at the No. 1 court, where Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas fell in a tight 23-21, 21-19 match.
In the win against the Cougars, UAB fought off several charges from the College of Charleston to sweep each court. The victory was not east for the Blazers, as the Cougars took three matches to three sets in the 5-0 UAB win.
Thomas and Hirini were able to pick up a 21-15, 21-18 triumph at the first position, while Sara Rishell and Rachel Fairbanks pulled out a 21-19, 21-18 victory at the fourth position to highlight UAB’s contest against the Cougars.
The Blazers picked up the two wins against College of Charleston and Jacksonville after falling in a tough, 5-0, dual to Florida State to begin the day.
On Saturday, UAB goes against Stetson at 10 a.m. CT to conclude the Jacksonville Easter Tournament.
