UAB Falls to LA Tech, 40-24

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The UAB football team fell at Legion Field, 40-24, to Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Jordan Howard rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown in the effort, moving to No. 5 on the Blazers' career rushing list.
The Bulldogs (7-3, 6-0 Conference USA) outgained UAB (5-5, 3-3) 428-314 and held the Blazers' running back tandem of Howard and D.J. Vinson to 163 yards. UAB rushed for 128 as a team.
Tight end Gerald Everett registered a career-high eight receptions, tying Maudrecus Humphrey's performance at WKU on Oct. 4 for the most catches by a Blazer in a game this season. Wide receiver J.J. Nelson moved into third on UAB's career receiving yards list with six catches for 54 yards against the LA Tech. Nelson finished the game with 200 total yards.
For the Bulldogs, Kenneth Dixon gained 79 yards on 15 carries and scored on runs of 12, 6 and 6 yards in the first half. Cody Sokol was 19 of 33 for 200 yards, with an interception and touchdown passes of 10 yards to Trent Taylor and 11 yards to Carlos Henderson.
Linebacker Jake Ganus swung the momentum into the Blazers' favor in the second half, recovering a fumble on a punt return by Taylor and returned it 56 yards for a score. UAB struck a second time on special teams with Nelson's third kickoff return for 100 yards.
Xavier Woods picked off a pass by quarterback Cody Clements in the fourth quarter, which LA Tech converted into a score to seal the game.
The Blazers head into an open week before hosting No. 23 Marshall at Legion Field on Nov. 22 at 11 a.m.
