Alabama State Squeaks by UAB Volleyball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team topped Alabama State in the first two sets, but the Lady Hornets stormed back to win, 3-2, Tuesday night in Bartow Arena.
The Blazers (9-22) allowed two ties in the first four points before taking a 3-2 lead thanks to junior Gabby Deshotel’s first kill of the match. UAB never let off the gas, cruising to a 25-13 victory in the first set.

The third set was a back-and-forth battle between the squads, featuring 16 ties and seven lead changes. After the Blazers locked the
Set four also went down to the wire with Alabama State benefitting from an UAB to lock the set, 23-all. A second UAB error and a Lady Hornet kill gave Alabama State the set, 25-23, while locking the match at 2-all.
The Lady Hornets completed the come-from-behind victory by winning the fifth and decisive set, 15-9.
Deshotel recorded her third consecutive match with 20 or more kills as the outside hitter led the Blazers with 21. The junior recorded her 12th double-double of the season by chipping in 14 digs.
Junior Amy Hunter totaled 12 kills for the Blazer attack as 10 different plays landed kills for UAB.
Setter Amber Treace guided the UAB offense with 45 assists. The junior added two aces and six digs.
Junior Emma Schroer led the defense with 27 kills. The libero also led the team with three aces.
The Blazers will close the 2015 regular season on Saturday as UAB hosts Rice on Senior Day. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
