UAB Volleyball Drops Conference Match to Middle Tennessee, 3-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team (4-8, 0-3 C-USA) battled Middle Tennessee to the brink, but the Blue Raiders (2-10, 1-0 C-USA) claimed a 3-0 victory on Wednesday evening in Alumni Memorial Gym.
Middle Tennessee opened the first set to an early lead, but the Blazers battled back to tie the set at 19-all. The Blue Raiders capped the first set with a 25-20 win.
The second set saw Middle Tennessee lead by as much as seven, but the Green and Gold fought back to lock the game up at 20-all in the late stages before the Blue Raiders claimed the set, 25-23.
UAB opened the final set with a 5-0 run before the Blue Raiders scored a point. Middle Tennessee would come from behind to win the final set, 25-23.
Junior Gabby Deshotel led the Blazers with 12 kills and a .219 attack percentage. The outside hitter also added four digs and three blocks for the UAB defense.
Junior Amber Treace set up the UAB offense with 30 assists while garnering three kills and two digs over three sets. Junior libero Emma Schroer contributed a team-leading 11 digs in the match.
Chelsea Ross led the Mocs with 20 kills for a .457 clip.
The Blazers return home to host the Fight Like Hal Memorial Tournament in Bartow Arena over the weekend, the final tournament action of the season. UAB opens the tournament with UMass Lowell at 2 p.m. CT on Friday.
