UAB Volleyball Prepares for Final Two Matches

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team wraps up its regular season schedule this weekend when it plays its final two matches. The Blazers travel to Florida Atlantic on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match and then return home Saturday to host Marshall on Senior Day at 1 p.m.

The Series
UAB and Florida Atlantic have met three times in school history with the Owls holding the 2-1 advantage. The two teams last met Oct. 16, 2015 with Florida Atlantic defeating UAB in three straight sets.
Marshall and UAB are no strangers to one another on the court. The two teams have met 21 times with the Blazers leading the all-time series 12-9. The last meeting between the two teams came on Nov. 1, 2015 and was a five set thriller with UAB taking the match 3-2.
On the Blazers
Erika Zembyla leads the team in kills with 313 (3.40 kills/set) and is second on the squad with 25 service aces. The Cypress native also has 125 digs which ranks fifth on the Blazers squad.
Haley Jared has remained a constant in the UAB lineup. She ranks second on the team with 261 kills (2.75 kills/set) on 770 attempts for a .169 attack percentage.
Amber Treace, who plays her final match in Bartow Arena on Saturday, leads the team in assists with 983 (9.93 assists/set). She is one of only three Blazers to have started all 99 sets this season.
Petra Silic has been a nightmare for opponents on all areas of the court. She leads the team with 96 total blocks (0.98 blocks/set) and 27 service aces. She has struck down 201 kills (2.05 kills/set) for a .262 hitting percentage.
Victoria Young has a team-high .307 attack percentage and is second on the squad with 88 blocks (0.91 blocks/set). She has recorded 171 kills (1.76 kills/set) placing her fifth on the team.
Emily Martinez boasts an outstanding 4.17 digs per set and has a total of 413 digs on the season. She, along with Treace and Sydney Hinds, has started all 99 sets.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
Florida Atlantic enters Thursday night's matchup on a two-game losing streak dropping matches at Marshall and UTSA. Before the skid, Florida Atlantic rattled off eight consecutive wins to open Conference USA play.
The Owls are led by Bria Wojciakowski who is tied for first on the team in attack percentage at .333 and ranks fourth on the team in sets played with 92. Nathalie Rosado leads the team in digs with 379 (3.95 digs/set), and Genesis Viera is second on the squad with 20 service aces.
Scouting Marshall
Stepping up big in conference play has the Thundering Herd coming to Birmingham at 20-7 overall and 9-3 in league play. They have won their last three conference matchups and are led by Cassie Weaver with 320 kills (3.27 kills/set).
Madison Hill has a team-high 73 blocks (0.78 blocks/set) and Allie Kellerman leads the squad with 455 digs (4.55 digs/set) and 28 service aces. Madelyn Cole ranks first in assists with 654 (6.74 assists/set) and is second on the team with 0.47 blocks per set.
