UAB Tops New Orleans To Open Blazer Beach Duals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team topped New Orleans, 4-1, at the Blazer Beach Courts to open the Blazer Beach Duals tournament Friday.
Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez etched the first Blazer victory Friday, defeating Blessing Dunn and Madison Miller at the No. 5 position, 21-15, 21-16. Tressa Buckland and Avei Logoleo extended the Blazer lead to 2-0 with a 21-20, 21-12 victory over Milica Zmiric and Courtney Roblez at the No. 4 position.
Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven clinched a UAB victory by defeating Brook Frank and Sam Uline, 21-10, 21-13, at the No. 2 position.
The Blazers’ No. 1 pair Sara Rishell and Chelsi Carter took down Kaitlyn Grice and Celeste Ramirez, 21-17, 21-17, to cap the 4-1 victory.
UAB’s lone loss came in a close three-set battle at the No. 3 position as Amber Treace and Zahria Richard fell to Cara Sander and Lauren Levy, 21-13, 21-10, 15-6.
The Blazers return to action Saturday for “Fight Like Hal Day” at the Beach Courts. The Blazers open Saturday’s doubleheader at 1 p.m. CT against Louisiana Monroe before taking on Lincoln Memorial at 4 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to wear lavender in honor of the program’s first head coach, the late Hal Messersmith.
