GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The UAB track and field team put the finishing touches on its competition at the Florida Relays Saturday from Percy Beard Track inside James G. Pressly Stadium.
The Blazer 4x400 meter relay team of Darielle Oliver, Fanta Diabate, Jimmeshia Wilder and Ali Meister turned in a time of 3:57.04 in the preliminaries.
"Our 4x400 meter relay team has been itching to race and it showed by the way they set themselves up for a competitive race," UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. "Our jumpers suffered some tough luck by barely scratching on some big jumps. I expect us to clean that up and see some strong results in the future."
The UAB quartet of Hannah Hensley, Elisea Jones, Wilder and Meister posted a time of 1:00.70 in the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle relay en route to a 12th place finish. Additionally, Sarah Livett, Hensley, Wilder and Meister placed ninth in the 4x800 meter relay.
"Our athletes got some much needed races this weekend," Thomas added. "The stats may not reflect how beneficial this meet was, but I feel confident about our results and believe we can build off them. We need to get healthy and stay healthy and our season will continue to get better."
Livett also ran the 5,000 meters Thursday night and posted a time of 18:04.93.
UAB returns to action March 8 when the Blazers travel to Auburn, Ala., to take part in the Auburn Invitational.
