UAB Hosts UTEP for Second Day of Conference Play

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team hosts UTEP for the second day of Conference USA play on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Bartow Arena.

The Series
The Blazers lead the all-time series with UTEP 10-4. The last time these two teams competed was in 2015 when the Miners defeated the Blazers, 3-1, at Memorial Gym in El Paso, Texas.
On the UAB Blazers
UAB dropped its first conference match against Middle Tennessee on Friday night in four sets, 3-1. Haley Jared has taken the reigns for the Blazers and leads the team with 174 kills (3.00 kills/set) for a .188 attack percentage.
Erika Zembyla is second on the squad with 169 kills (3.25 kills/set) and posts a .167 hitting percentage. Amber Treace continues to shine at setter with 616 assists (10.44 kills/set) and posts an impressive .292 hitting percentage.
Victoria Young leads the defensive effort with 60 total blocks (1.05 blocks/set), 11 of them being solo. She has also struck 91 kills and owns a .287 hitting percentage. Petra Silic is also a threat at the net recording 54 total blocks (0.93 blocks/set) and leads the team with 14 solo blocks.
Scouting UTEP
The Miners bring a 2-11 overall record after dropping their first conference match against Rice in five sets, 3-2.
Lindsey Larson leads the squad in most offensive categories. She's the owner of a team-high 110 kills (2.29 kills/set) for a .210 hitting percentage and has a 251 assists (5.23 assists/set) on the season. She also leads the team with nine service aces.
Defensively, Kylie Baumgartner leads UTEP by tallying 41 total blocks (0.89 blocks/set) and Larson is hot on her heels with 38 blocks (0.79 blocks/set) on the season. Sarah Villa leads the team and the conference with 5.44 digs per set.
A Look Ahead
The Blazers will hit the road next week as they travel to Charlotte, N.C., to battle the 49ers on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. and then will head to Miami, Fla., to face FIU on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m.
Promotions
The UAB volleyball team will be having a Dads and Daughters Day on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. vs. UTEP. All dads and daughters pairings will receive free youth tickets with an adult ticket purchase and free food vouchers.
