UAB Faces Tough Conference USA Road Trip

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team continues Conference USA play this weekend with contests at Charlotte and FIU on Friday and Sunday night, respectively.

The Series
UAB and Charlotte are meeting for the 29th time in school history and the Blazers lead the all-time series 18-10.
FIU and UAB are meeting for the seventh time with the Panthers leading the series 5-1.
On the UAB Blazers
UAB will look to snap a five-match losing streak, as well as erase the bad taste of two tough losses to open C-USA play.
Amber Treace leads the Blazers and ranks sixth in C-USA at 9.91 assists per set along with being third on the squad with a .289 hitting percentage.
Junior Haley Jared leads UAB offensively with 2.94 kills per set, while five other Blazers all average over 1.50 kills per set. Junior Petra Silic leads the team with a .300 attack percentage on the season.
Defensively, Victoria Young leads the Blazers with 66 total blocks this season and Silic is right behind her with 60. Emily Martinez ranks sixth in the conference with 4.27 digs per set.
Scouting Charlotte
The 49ers come into the match looking to improve their 6-10 record. Molly Shaw has a team-high 168 kills (2.75 kills/set) and Janell Sparks is just behind her with 156 (2.64 kills/set). Tatyana Thomas leads the team in attack percentage with a .291 mark. Defensively, Jocelyn Stoner is best on the squad with 77 total blocks and Shelby Green has tallied a team-high 139 digs.
Scouting FIU
FIU is 6-9 overall. The Panthers are led by Katie Hogan who has 155 kills (2.87 kills/set) and posts a .191 attack percentage. Mariana De Paula Silva controls the offense with 384 assists (7.53 assists/set). Jennifer Ene leads the team with 51 total blocks (1.06 blocks/set) while Lina Bernier has averaged a team-high 2.35 digs/set.
A Look Ahead
The Blazers return home next weekend to host North Texas on Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
