UAB Falls at Florida, 36-7

The Blazers finished the non-conference portion of its schedule at 2-2 with its two losses coming on the road.
Senior Tevin Crews led the way for the Blazers with 13 tackles, while junior Broderick Thomas recorded a career-high 12 tackles. It is the seventh time this season that Crews has led the team in tackles and now has 91 total tackles on the season, while Thomas is second on the team with 88.
Darious Williams also starred for the Blazers against Florida, recording a career-high four pass breakups while also tacking on six tackles. Williams leads Conference USA in pass breakups with 14 on the season.
UAB (7-4, 5-2 C-USA) recorded four tackles for loss which included sacks by Craig Kanyangarara and Chris Woolbright. Kanyangarara finished with a career-best six tackles along with his first career sack, while Woolbright added two tackles.
Quarterback A.J. Erdely went 14-of-19 for 177 yards and a touchdown to lead the UAB offense. Wideout Xavier Ubosi made the play of the game for the Blazers, hauling in a career-long 74-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. The 74-yard score was UAB's longest of the season.
The Gators (4-6, 3-3 SEC) scored the game's opening points, taking the ball 45 yards in 10 plays before the Blazer defense held firm and forced an Eddy Pineiro 39-yard field goal to give Florida a 3-0 lead.
The defense was once again asked to stand tall after the Blazers fumbled and gave Florida the ball on the UAB 16-yard line. The Blazers held the Gators to just four yards in four plays before Pineiro connected on his second field goal of the contest – a 26-yard effort – to extend the lead to 6-0 with 1:10 to play in the first.
Following Florida's third made field goal of the day to open a 9-0, defender Chauncey Gardner, Jr. picked off quarterback Kylen Binn on a trick play and returned the ball 42 yards to the UAB 13. The Gators scored two plays later as Feleipe Franks hit C'yontai Lewis for the 11-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 16-0.
Florida capped of the first half with Pineiro's second 50-yard field goal of the day to take a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
The Gators scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as DeAndre Goolsby and Lamical Perine each found the end zone to increase the lead to 33-0.
UAB got on the board with 14:44 in the game as Erdely connected with Ubosi for a 74-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 33-7. The touchdown outdid UAB's previous long score which was a 58-yard pass from Erdely to Andre Wilson at North Texas.
Pineiro scored the final points of the night for the Gators, converting his fifth field goal from 42-yards out to secure the 36-7 home win for Florida.
The Gators were +4 in the turnover battle (two fumbles, two interceptions) and outgained UAB as a whole 409-180.
The Blazers conclude the regular season on Nov. 25 when the Green and Gold host UTEP at Legion Field for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for Noon CT and will be streamed on CUSA.tv. UAB is 5-0 at home this season.
