IRVING, Texas – UAB senior forward Chris Cokley was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Cokley averaged 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds and shot 55.3 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line last week in games against Richmond, Buffalo, Iowa and Mississippi College.
Cokley opened the week with a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with eight points against Richmond in the first game of the Cayman Islands Classic. The Savannah, Ga., native followed that by scoring 24 points and grabbing a career-best 15 rebounds against MAC preseason favorite Buffalo.
In the final game of the tournament, Cokley poured in 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds against Big Ten foe Iowa. He capped his week with 13 points and four rebounds Sunday in a victory over Mississippi College.
Cokley scored 70 points during the week and upped his career total to 1,245, and moving into 14th place all-time at UAB. He enters this week just 50 points shy of tying Blazer great Robert Vaden for 13th place.
Overall, Cokley paces UAB with 18.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and ranks fourth in Conference USA in scoring and second in rebounding. In addition, Cokley stands ninth in the league with a .590 field goal percentage and has four games this season where he's shot at least 60.0 percent from the field.
