BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB men's basketball head Robert Ehsan announced Thursday that Tamell Pearson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Blazers next season.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Pearson is a 6-foot-8 forward rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and 247 Sports and is a consensus top-5 player in the state of Illinois. Pearson is team captain at Morgan Park High School under head coach Nick Irvin and helped the Mustangs win the Illinois High School Association 3A State Championship last season.
Pearson participated in the Pangos All-American Camp was also a force in the paint at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League as a member of the Mac Irvin Fire.
"We are thrilled to have Tamell sign an NLI with us and join our UAB basketball family, Ehsan said. "As a high character young man from a great family, Tamell fits our team, culture and university perfectly and I look forward to coaching him to many successful seasons in the future. Tamell plays at Morgan Park High School and won the Illinois Class 3A state championship. That program has a great winning tradition playing in the Chicago Public School League, which is one of the best in the country.
"On the basketball court Tamell is an extremely versatile player whose size and athleticism enable him to affect the game in so many ways on both the offensive and defensive end. Offensively Tamell can score from the outside, off the dribble and inside the paint. On the defensive end, Tamell can guard multiple positions and plays with a great sense of energy and hustle. Tamell's relentless work ethic and desire to be great are two characteristics that I love about him and I know will help him to have a great career as a Blazer."
