UAB Falls To Troy In Five Sets

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB falls to in-state foe Troy 3-2 in five sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 16-25, 12-15).
UAB started quick in the first set by jumping out to a 7-2 lead on Troy. The Trojans battled back and tied the score late at 18 but a block from Petra Silic and Gabby Deshotel and an attack error by Troy gave the Blazers a two-point lead.
UAB (3-5) then went on a 5-3 run to close the first set winning it 25-21.
The second set started out as a back and forth affair with neither team gaining anything better than a two-point lead. However, Troy used a five-point run to open up a 16-12 lead on the scoreboard.
The Blazers fought back and cut the lead down to two points but the Trojans closed the second set on a 5-3 run to take it 25-21.
In the third set, UAB used a 5-1 run to take a 10-5 lead and to take command of the set. Troy didn't have an answer for the Blazers as they cruised to a 25-17 set three win.
Troy (3-5) took command of the fourth set early with a 6-0 run to start and didn't look back as it won 25-16 to force a fifth set.
The Trojans took an early lead in the fifth set with a 7-2 run and gave them enough of a cushion to hold off the Blazers to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Deshotel recorded a double-double for UAB with 11 kills and 17 digs Tuesday night. She led the Blazers in both categories while Kenley Adams racked up 37 assists on the night.
UAB will stay on the road as it will travel to Evansville, Ind. for the Dunn Hospitality Invitational. The Blazers will face UT Martin on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CT. They will play twice on Saturday against host Evansville at 12:30 p.m. CT and then facing off with Indiana at 4:30 p.m. CT.
