Zack Bryant Named to Conference USA Preseason Team

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a record-breaking rookie season in which he earned All-Conference honors, sophomore Zack Bryant has been named to the Conference USA Preseason Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
Bryant was dominant for the Blazers as a freshman, earning Freshman of the Week honors twice throughout the course of the season before being named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, the first Blazer since 2015 to garner the recognition.
"Zack is a big part of our program and he is very deserving of this recognition," head coach Robert Ehsan said. "He is developing into a strong leader for our new group of guys and continues to improve upon his game every day. I'm looking forward to seeing what he is able to do in his sophomore season."
The sophomore started in all 33 games for the Green and Gold, averaging the second-most points on the team at 13.6, while bringing in 3.2 boards per game and dishing out 3.1 assists per game.
He finished the year scoring in double figures in 24 times, including a career-high 19 points in games against Troy and Southern Miss.
Bryant etched his name in the record books as one of the top freshmen in program history, setting the single-season school record for points by a freshman with 407. The previous record of 349 was set by Demario Eddins during the 2002-03 season.
As part of the league's announcement on Thursday, the Blazers were also projected to finish in eighth place in the preseason poll.
Fans will have their first chance to see the Blazers in action on Thursday when the Green and Gold host the Georgia Bulldogs in a charity exhibition game at Bartow Arena as part of the Hoops Season Tipoff Event. All proceeds from the tipoff event will be donated to the American Red Cross. Tickets are on sale for $10 here and are not included in season ticket or mini plan packages.
