Blazers Sweep Bethune-Cookman in Sunshine State Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team capped off its three-match road swing in the state of Florida with a bang, earning the Blazers' third sweep of the season with a 4-0 win over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday at the City Island Tennis Courts.
UAB (9-6, 0-2) has now earned back-to-back victories away from Birmingham for the second time this season, the first coming on Feb. 17 when it won two matches in Des Moines, Iowa, against Georgia Washington and Omaha.
The Blazers got things going in doubles play, beginning with a dominant 6-1 display from Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez to give the Green and Gold the early edge. The clinching point came on Court 2 as Henry Paiste and Nikolai Manchev came up with a clutch 7-5 victory over Juan Navarro and Juan Diego Ruiz to put UAB up 1-0 in the match.
Dollman was lights out to kick off singles play, winning his 11th match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Victor Bravo on Court 1. Giovani Pasini followed up that performance with one of his own, taking down Diego Ruiz 6-3, 6-0 to pull the Blazers within one point of victory.
Anru Fourie provided the clinching point for UAB, winning his second match at the three spot on Friday with a 6-4, 6-2 win over David Ocampo to solidify the sweep.
The Blazers return to the friendly confines of the UAB Tennis Courts next weekend for two matches when they host Jackson State on March 24 and Alabama A&M on March 25. First serve in both matches is slated for 1 p.m.
