BIRMINGHAM – The UAB volleyball team is back home this weekend as it hosts Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 1 p.m. for its first conference match in Bartow Arena this season.

UAB this season
The Blazers (8-7) endured a pair of tough losses on the road to open conference play last weekend, falling to North Texas and Louisiana Tech.
Despite the outcomes, redshirt junior outside hitter Emma Mitchell continues to thrive as the focal point of the UAB's offense. The Charlotte, N.C., native has contributed in both phases this season as she leads the team with 174 kills and 147 digs.
Freshman setter Rachel Morse has also stepped up in her first collegiate season to set up the Blazer attack, compiling a team-high 438 assists on the year. The San Antonio, Texas, native is also second on the team with 16 aces and third on the squad with 133 digs this season.
As a unit, UAB has specialized in serving throughout the season, ranking 13th in the nation and second in Conference USA in aces with 106 to date.
Scouting Middle Tennessee
The Blue Raiders (6-9) come into the matchup following a 3-1 loss at home to Charlotte in their first conference match of the season.
To get over the hump this year, Middle Tennessee has relied on its fundamentals. The Blue Raiders are currently second in the conference with 695 assists and 887 digs. Setting that tone individually and facilitating the offense is senior setter Taylor Hammill, who ranks third in the conference and in the top 50 in the nation in assists with 534 on the season.
In the all-time series between the two, the Blazers currently hold a 17-10 advantage. UAB swept the first five meetings of the two programs from 1984-89 for the longest streak of the series. The Blazers won the last contest between the two sides as well with another sweep a season ago in Bartow Arena.
