Women’s Tennis to Host South Alabama; Travel to Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM - Playing its home opener, the UAB women's tennis team will host South Alabama on Saturday afternoon and concludes the weekend with a trip to Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon.
The match against South Alabama will take place at George Ward Park and first serve is set for 12 p.m. The match on Sunday in Starkville is also at 12 p.m.
The Blazers (2-3) are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Auburn as the Blazers fell 4-3 last Saturday. South Alabama enters Saturday's match undefeated at 4-0, while Mississippi State is 4-2.
UAB is 8-6 overall in doubles and 15-15 in singles matches. Leading the charge in singles is Jana Hecking who has won four straight matches and is 4-1 overall. Hecking has played matches on three different courts and is 1-0 on court three, 2-1 on four, and 1-0 on five.
The top of the lineup has remained the same early on this season with Marlene Herrmann playing first singles and Alexandra Shchipakina playing second singles. Herrmann is 2-3 overall while Shchipakina is 3-2.
