Beach Volleyball to Host Inaugural March to May in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Hosting the inaugural March to May, the UAB beach volleyball team welcomes universities to Gulf Shores this weekend, March 8-10, for a three-day tournament at the site of the NCAA National Championships.
Annual hosts of the NCAA Championships at The Hangout in Gulf Shores, UAB beach volleyball is providing a premier regular season tournament at the venue in which teams strive to compete at for the title in early May.
UAB, who is receiving votes in the national polls for a third-straight week, welcomes three CCSA teams to the tournament in No. 18 Georgia State, Tulane and Southern Miss, along with the likes of Houston Baptist, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Austin Peay and Spring Hill.
The Blazers (4-4, 0-4 CCSA), are coming off a weekend in which they pushed the top teams in the nation to the brink in Boca Raton, but ultimately fell to four conference opponents. In its first match of last weekend, UAB had three of five matches with No. 5 Florida State go three sets and had an opportunity to spring the upset, but ultimately fell 4-1 to the Seminoles.
UAB opens this weekend's tournament with two more matches against conference opponents with Tulane and Southern Miss on Friday at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively. UAB is 4-11 against the Green Wave all-time, while the match with Southern Miss marks the first meeting between the two schools. The Golden Eagles are in their first year of competition in beach volleyball.
The March to May begins on Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. with Spring Hill vs. New Orleans, and concludes on Sunday afternoon when UAB hosts Houston Baptist.
