DENTON, Texas – Despite getting off to hot starts in each set and keeping them close, the UAB volleyball team fell to North Texas, 3-0, on the road on Friday night. The Blazers (8-6) were within five points or less in each of the sets the Mean Green (7-6) took to come out on top.

"Tonight was a great road test," said coach Amy Pauly. "North Texas is a very physical team. They make you work hard, and their gym is a tough atmosphere. We learned what it's going to take to win on the road in Conference USA."

Player Spotlight
Redshirt junior Emma Mitchell continued her steady presence for the Blazers, leading the attack with 10 kills, including an ace, and helping out on the defensive side with a pair of blocks and 13 digs for her fourth double double of the season.

How it Happened
UAB was surgical from the baseline, dropping nine aces to North Texas' two for the biggest advantage of the night.

The Blazers jumped in front early in set one, going on a five-point run to take a 6-2 lead. North Texas then evened things up at seven all, continuing its pace to take its first lead at 10-9. The Mean Green didn't give up the lead beyond that point, take the first set, 25-21.

UAB again took the first substantial lead early, leading 9-5 after a four-point run. The Blazers kept ahead up to a tally of 13-10, but North Texas took five straight points of its own to claim the lead and again saw the set through, taking the 25-20 win.

Set three was tight throughout as the two sides battled back and forth. Neither side was able to gain an advantage of three points throughout the entire set, but after UAB evened things up at 23 all, North Texas took the final two points to clinch the set, 25-23, and the match.

UAB will next square off against the Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. at 1 p.m. to conclude the weekend.
