BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team will close out its three-game home stand with a Saturday night matchup against Memphis. Saturday's kickoff at BBVA Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
UAB's fifth match of the 2021 season will stream live on CUSA.tv. Fans will also be able to follow this weekend's matchup via live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers (1-3) dropped a pair of one-goal decisions in this past weekend's Soccer for the Cure Classic at BBVA Field.
After falling behind 2-0 to UTRGV in the 59th minute, UAB battled back in the match's final 12 minutes to send the game to overtime. Senior forward Nathaniel St. Louis set up the first Blazer goal of the match with a driving run down the left side, delivering a low cross to freshman midfielder Curtis DeLeon for a right-footed finish. St. Louis then netted his second goal of the season when senior forward Brooks Rice curled a cross into the box for St. Louis to head home the equalizer. The Blazers scored twice within 7 minutes to send their second straight match to overtime.
UTRGV registered the game-winning goal with less than one minute remaining in double overtime for the 3-2 road victory.
The Blazers then fell 1-0 to Central Arkansas on Sunday, having a last-minute attempt off a corner sail just wide of the right post. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Trevor Jackson made five saves in the low-scoring battle.
Rice and St. Louis pace the Blazers with two goals and five points apiece. Jackson leads UAB goalkeepers with 0.79 goals allowed per game and a .833 save percentage.
THE SERIES VS. MEMPHIS
Sunday will mark the 42nd time the Blazers and Tigers have squared off against each other dating back to 1982. The series is tied 20-20-1 with UAB holding a 2-2-1 record over the past five meetings.
The Tigers and Blazers last met on Oct. 8, 2019, when Memphis recorded a 4-1 victory at Billy J Murphy Track & Soccer Complex. UAB's Krenar Krasniqi scored for the Blazers via a penalty shot in the 72nd minute.
SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis holds a 0-3-1 record through four matches this season, dropping a pair of one-goal defeats to Ohio State and No. 23 Lipscomb. Like the Blazers, the Tigers opened their season at the Wolstein Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Memphis fell 3-2 to Ohio State to open its season before earning a 1-1 draw against Dayton.
Junior midfielder/forward Emanuel Santos leads the Tigers in goals (two) and points (four). Santos also is tied for the team lead in shots (eight) and shots on goal (three). Santos led the Tigers with three goals during the 2020-21 campaign. Sophomores Toby McCallum and Gabriel Christensen join Santos on the season scoresheet with a goal apiece.
Goalkeepers Parker Lackland and Colin Welsh have each tallied two starts in net for the Tigers. Both keepers have eight saves in 2021.

UAB is 1-2 against the trio of shared opponents, while Memphis holds a 0-1-1 record against the same opponents with a 3-2 loss at Ohio State and a 1-1 tie against Dayton in Columbus, Ohio.
