UAB Cross Country Hosts the Blazer Classic

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Cross Country Team returns home to host their sole home meet of the year with the 2022 Blazer Classic. The Blazer Classic will be held on Friday, October 14 at the University of Montevallo Cross Country Course.
The Women's 6K is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and the Men's 8K is immediately following at 9:40 a.m. The Blazers return from the Lakefront Invitational, where the Blazers finished 10th in the Women's Maroon 6K.
Lauren Charlton was first to cross the line for the Blazers with a time of 22:23.12, followed by Kyra Hayes at 22:37.44. Kathleen Schellman was last to round out the top three Blazer finishers with a time of 23:26.99 for the Green and Gold.
This race will serve as the final competition before the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 23.
"We are looking forward to competing at Montevallo's cross country course this weekend for the Blazer Classic. Lauren Charlton came off of a great first collegiate race at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational two weeks ago. Kyra Hayes was right behind her, racing well in the first 6k of her college career," said head coach Maryn Lowry on the performance at the previous race for UAB."
