UAB Beach Volleyball Finishes 4-1 at Tiger Beach Challenge

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team finished 4-1 overall at the Tiger Beach Challenge hosted by LSU this weekend in Baton Rouge.
The Blazers (4-5, 1-1 C-USA) won three of their four matches by scores of 3-2, and in the process picked up their first Conference USA victory over Southern Miss. UAB's lone setback was a loss to No. 4 Loyola Marymount.
"I'm proud of our team for closing out this weekend 4-1," said head coach Terri Del Conte. "There were a lot of great takeaways and we are looking forward to building on them this upcoming week."
UAB went 2-1 on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Southern Miss, a 5-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin and a 5-0 loss to Loyola Marymount.
Sunday saw the Blazers defeat Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&M Corpus Christi both by scores of 3-2.
Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira won three matches on court one, as did Dylynn Otte and Emma Andraka on court two to lead the Blazers. Ella Alexander and Naomi Ortiz both won four matches with two different partners on courts four and five.
UAB returns to the state of Louisiana next weekend for the Bayou Beach Duals hosted by Tulane. While in New Orleans, UAB will play host Tulane, before a rematch with Southern Miss on Saturday, March 11. Sunday will feature matches against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
