Cross Country Returns to Action at North Alabama Showcase

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Cross Country team returns to competition as they travel to Huntsville to run in the North Alabama Showcase, hosted by North Alabama on Sept. 16, 2022. The Women's 5K is scheduled to start at 8:15 a.m. at John Hunt Cross Country Park.
"Coming off of our season opener at Jacksonville State, our focus for the North Alabama Showcase is keeping a tighter pack through our fifth runner," Said head coach, Maryn Lowry. "At JSU, we had a solid top three in Kyra Hayes, Lauren Robinson, and Kathleen Schellman. We hope to repeat that at the North Alabama Showcase and have our second pack move up closer to the top three."
UAB looks to continue the momentum, finishing fourth at the Foothills Invitational on Sept. 2. where two Blazers finished in the top ten, and all runners finishing in the top 100. Freshman Kyra Hayes led the team with a sixth place finish of 14:36.19, followed by Lauren Robinson with a seventh place finish of 14:40.22.
Last season, the Blazers finished 15th out of 21 at the 2021 North Alabama Showcase. Six runners finished in the top 150, including Robinson, who finished 60th.
