LOUISVILLE – UAB Track & Field closes out day two of the PNC Lenny Lyles invite hosted by Louisville, building off of the successes seen in day one. The Blazers closed out with 13 personal bests and four season bests in their first road meet of the season.
"The ladies accomplished a lot of positive things this weekend. When you come to bigger meets, you want to compete at a high level and we did that for the most part." said head coach Kurt Thomas.
Starting the day, Zoria Miller topped her prior indoor PR in shot put with a throw of 13.11m. As the day progressed, more personal bests surfaced, with Sangie Lincoln-Velez finishing with a personal record in the mile. Gracie Sears followed up and joined Lincoln-Velez in notable performances in the mile.
Fellow distance runners Kyra Hayes and Ava Brooks set PRs in the women's 3K. It was Hayes' second PR in the 3K this season, with her previous coming from the Blazer Invite. In the 800m, Alicia Abalos Cervera and Regina Harris racked up season bests, while in triple jump, Shauntia Landrum finished with a season best of her own.
"Sangie had an outstanding mile race and several others had season bests. Tia's triple jump series was solid and just missed on a big jump," said Thomas on the additional performances of the team. "Zoria threw well in the shot. We still have lots of things to work on. We're not satisfied with where we are. We'll get back to work next week, train hard and keep getting better."
