EL PASO, Texas – UAB men's basketball (19-8, 10-6 C-USA) overcame 21 turnovers with a strong shooting effort to sink UTEP (12-14, 5-10 C-USA) on a frigid night in El Paso, 79-66. Jordan Walker added 22 points as five Blazers finished in double figures for the third time in four games.

The Blazers did not trail for the final 34 minutes of the contest. Despite leading at the half, UAB limped into the break. Leading by 10 with under four minutes to go in the half, UTEP went on a 10-2 run to cut the Blazers' lead to just two points at 36-34 before heading into the locker room. Calvin Solomon scored eight of the Miner's 10 points during the run.

UAB shot 62 percent (13-21) from the field in the first half, including a 5-for-8 mark from three, but the Blazers turned the ball over 10 times and were outrebounded 20-13.

In the second half, the Blazers began to play to their strengths, outrebounding the Miners 24-10 and shooting 11-for-14 from the free throw line. UAB ranks among the top teams in the country in rebounding and free throws made per game.

Jordan Walker continued his scoring pace from the first half, scoring eight points over three minutes to help UAB take an 11-point lead. UTEP would not go away after they continued to force turnovers. The Miners scored 34 points off turnovers on the night.

The Blazers maintained a double-digit advantage over the last three minutes to take the 79-66 win.

UAB shot over 50 percent for the sixth time this season.
The Blazers have grabbed at least 10 offensive rebounds in every game this season.

Ty Brewer scored 11 points to reach double figures in three-straight games for the first time this season.
Ledarrius Brewer finished with 13 points while shooting 5-for-6 from the field.
