UAB Baseball Drops Game Two 12-6 to Murray State

BIRMINGHAM β After having the lead going into the ninth inning, UAB (2-4) dropped game two, 12-6, to Murray State (2-4) on Saturday, Feb. 25.

UAB scored early in the first and second innings then both teams recorded three-runs in the fourth bringing the score to 5-3 before Murray State tied the game in the top of the fifth. For two innings, no runs were scored until the Blazers brought in a run from a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. The Racers broke the game open in the ninth inning, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead. Β

Nick Hollifield made his college debut for the Blazers behind the plate while Mayes White made his debut as the starting shortstop. Hollifield collected five putouts while White collected three.

Offensively for UAB, three Blazers recorded a multi-hit game including Brandon Willoughby (2-for-4), Darryl Buggs (3-for-4) and Peyton Puckett (2-for-3). John Marc Mullins collected two RBIs after hitting a triple in the fourth inning to put UAB back in the lead, 5-3. Buggs' three hits were all singles and he scored two of the six runs after being aggressive on the bases and collecting one stolen base.

Seven Blazers spent time on the mound including starter Carson Myers who threw three innings, but Ben Abernathy (0-1) received the loss after allowing seven runs β six of those earned β on five hits all in the ninth inning. John Luke Marlin, Carson Knight, Colin Daniel, Tyler Haines, Abernathy and Leo Harris followed Myers. Marlin and Knight threw for a combined inning and allowed one earned run on one hit. Daniel pitched an inning and allowed only one run β earned β on two hits before Haines came to the mound and threw three innings allowing only one hit. Harris ended the game on the mound recording no stats.
