STARKVILLE – UAB Track & Field concluded their campaign at the Bulldog Relays with more accolades to add to their belt. The Blazers finished with an event win and seven top-eight performances.
"We had a lot of positive performances this weekend. Shauntia jumped really well in both the triple and long jump and got an event win," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "Eriyanna and Gian raced well this weekend in their events. Mya had a good javelin competition. We got a lot of good event work in some field events and the 4x100m relay."
On the track, the women's 200m saw freshman Eriyanna Reed finishing eighth overall with a 24.54. Madison Thomas also finished with a personal best time of 26.58 in the 200. In hurdles, Taylor Washington and Synai Jones also finished with PRs with times of 14.82 and 15.60.
In the relays, the women's 4x400m saw a third-place finish from the Green and Gold. Reed, Regina Harris, Sangie Lincoln-Velez and Jabriana Jemison finished with a time of 3:59.16. For the 4x100m relay, Makiyah Sills, Taylor Washington, Kat Duren and Alayah Dozier crossed eighth overall.
Field events continued where they left off on Friday, with Shauntia Landrum winning the Women's Long jump with a 5.74m. Landrum, who finished second in triple jump yesterday, finished with two top-three finishes on the weekend.
In Javelin, Mya McDanal also placed in the top eight with a throw of 39.58m.
"We're all in a heavy training period, so the girls are competing hard through that," said Thomas. "We have lots of technical things to work on and start to get healthier, and we'll be in good shape over the next few weeks."
