UAB Holds a 6-3 Win Over Jacksonville State on Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (8-16) pulled through to defeat Jacksonville State (13-12) by a score of 6-3 during the mid-week matchup on Tuesday, March 28 at Young Memorial Field.
The Blazers were dominate on both sides of the ball. Starting pitcher, Braxton Shelton, was backed up by UAB's offense which kept the Blazers ahead and allowed Shelton to work through five innings to pick up his first career win.
Both teams collected eight hits on the night, but UAB brought more runs in after scoring multiple runs in the second and eighth innings and one run in the fifth to ultimately score six runs compared to the Gamecocks' three.
On the mound for the Blazers, Braxton Shelton (1-1) earned his first career win after making his debut start while John Luke Marlin (2) picked up the save for UAB. Four Blazers followed Shelton – Jonah Smith, Thomas Ballard, JC Sewell and Marlin. Smith threw one complete inning and allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts while Ballard followed with a three up, three down inning. Sewell faced two batters in the eighth before Marlin came in and threw a shutout two innings with a strikeout to earn his second save for UAB.
Three Blazers extended their hit streaks after they collected a multi-hit game – Tyler Waugh (2-for-2), Logan Braunschweig (2-for-3) and Henry Hunter (2-for-4). Waugh collected two singles, one of those being an RBI single in the second to put UAB up 3-1. Braunschweig extended his hit streak to six after collecting two singles and scoring one of the Blazers' runs. Hunter collected his third triple in the last four games to also extend his hit streak to six and collect two runs batted in. Brayton Brown picked up his eighth double of the year while Gavin Lewis Jr. collected his fifth RBI.
