UAB Defeats Charlotte in Game Two at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Blazers (9-17, 3-5) defeated the Charlotte 49ers (12-14, 4-4) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, April 1 to force the rubber match with the series tied 1-1.
The game stood scoreless through five innings while a pitching duel was happening on the mound. Charlotte scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning before UAB went on a two-out rally in the seventh to take the lead.
Blayze Berry collected the first complete game of the season with the help of UAB's defensive behind him. Berry threw five three up, three downs innings with the defense collecting 27 putouts. Through nine complete innings, Berry allowed one run – earned – on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts through 32 batters faced.
Offensively for the Blazers, five batters recorded hits including Tyler Waugh, Christian Hall, Logan Braunschweig, Peyton Puckett and Henry Hunter. Braunschweig collected the first hit for UAB and scored one of the Blazers' runs before Puckett pinched hit for David Harris in the seventh and drove in the tying run. Hunter collected his first double on the year when he drove in Darry Buggs for the go-ahead run.
