Late Goal Trips Up Men's Soccer Against Chicago State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's soccer (0-2-1) fell, 3-2, to Chicago State (2-1) on Friday night at Goldfarb Field on the campus of Birmingham-Southern. The Cougars scored the game winner in the 89th minute to take the match.
The Blazers took the lead in the 32nd minute after Gustavo Barbosa's corner kick found Alan Melendez for the UAB goal. Chicago State answered right back with a goal to tie it back up only three minutes later.
The score remained tied at 1-1 until midway through the second half. In the 71st minute, a red card was shown to Melendez, putting the Blazers down a man for the rest of the match. However, less than one minute later, Kaleb Jowers put UAB on top, 2-1, with his first collegiate goal.
The Cougars responded once again only a few minutes later, scoring the equalizer in the 76th minute.
Chicago State was able to take the lead in the 89th minute on an impressive individual effort by Florian Ouaddour, who was able to drive the ball into the top right corner of the goal to give the Cougars the 3-2 win.

The Blazers will be back in action on Sunday against Houston Christian at Goldfarb Field on the campus of Birmingham Southern. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT. Admisson is free to Sunday's game.
