WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- The Blazers and Green Wave have played very competitive games as of late with UAB winning one-possession contests in 2018 and 2021, followed by last year's 12-point Tulane victory in which the Green Wave sealed it with a touchdown in the final seconds.
- Tulane's only two losses this season came to No. 17 Kansas State and No. 15 Oklahoma, but has since defeated Louisiana (41-33) and South Florida (45-10). The Green Wave has won the AAC regular season each of the last two seasons and is unbeaten in its last 11 AAC regular season games.
- UAB will have to be very sound against a Tulane team that ranks top 50 nationally in both offense and defense and is ninth nationally in time of possession.
- Tulane's offense is led by redshirt freshman quarterback Darian Mensah and redshirt sophomore running back and Birmingham native Makhi Hughes. Mensah has thrown for 1,122 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Hughes is third in the AAC in rushing with an average 97.0 yards per game. He has 450 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
- UAB's seventh-ranked pass defense will have its work cut out for them against Tulane's receivers, who are led by Mario Williams (22-406) and Dontae Fleming (16-292), both who average over 18 yards per catch.
- Defensively for Tulane, defensive end Gerrod Henderson is the reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Week following last week's performance in which he had four tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble which led to a touchdown.
- Safety Sirad Bryant continues to lead UAB in tackles with 29, while nickel Adrian Maddox had a team-high seven tackles last week and paces the Blazers with four pass breakups.
- Offensively, Jacob Zeno is coming off a game in which he threw for 202 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He ranks 18th nationally in completion percentage (69.5) and is 334 yards away from 5,000 career passing yards.
- Lee Beebe Jr. leads UAB's backfield and has compiled 268 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Beebe Jr. has also been an asset in the pass game, hauling in 10 catches for 97 yards.
- Sophomore kicker Jonah Delange continues to produce and has not missed yet this season. He is 7-for-7 on FG with a long of 46 and is 9-for-9 on PAT.
