UAB Beach Splits on Opening Weekend at Grand Canyon

BIRMINGHAM β The UAB beach volleyball team opened the 2024 season by going 2-2 at the GCU Tournament hosted by Grand Canyon in Phoenix.

The Blazers won both of their matches over Arizona Christian and Ottawa (Ariz.) by the score of 5-0 on Saturday, then suffered a pair of 4-1 losses to Boise State and No. 14 GCU on Sunday.

Against Boise State, Court 2 was victorious for the Blazers as Jessica Ennis and Isabel Day registered a straight set victory. In the match against GCU, UAB's Court 1 pair of Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas won a three-set match for the Blazers' only point. Ennis and Day also went three sets but fell short, while courts 3-5 were straight set victories for GCU.

The Blazers return to action next weekend, March 2-3, when they host the UAB Beach Classic and welcomes Florida Atlantic, UTEP, UT Martin and EKU to Birmingham.
