Nashville - The UAB baseball team traveled to Nashville, TN to face Belmont University. In game one a three game series, UAB lost 9-6, despite 12 hits.

The Blazers continued to get runs on the board early in games. Jake Smallwood drove in Darryl Buggs on a hard hit ball to 1st base and UAB led after one inning. The Bruins tied the game shortly after on a solo home run in the 2nd inning.

UAB grabbed another run in the 5th after an RBI groundout by Alex Cheeseman. A wild pitch would then score Gavin Lewis Jr. in the 7th inning. UAB led 3-1.

Berry Blayze pitched 6.2 innings giving up three earned runs. He finished the game with eight strikeouts and just two walks.

Belmont only manufactured two hits through seven innings, before three hits in the 7th. The Bruins scored two runs and tied the game at 3-3.

The Blazers gave up six runs in the 8th inning making the score 9-3 Belmont. Chase Ingram comes in and gets two outs to get the Blazers out of the 8th inning.

UAB tried to to mount a comeback in the 9th inning, but the Blazers could not score enough. Jake Smallwood hit a ball off the shortstops glove to score Darryl Buggs and Alex Cheeseman. Tyler Waugh then stepped up and hit a ball down the right field line to score Smallwood.

Next Game
UAB will face Belmont in game two of a three game series, tomorrow at 2 PM.
