Senior Day:
On Saturday against Southern Miss, UAB will honor its four graduating seniors in Arden Copping, Jessica Ennis, Brooke Pertuit and Azmabeth Infante. This class will go down as some of the most instrumental players in program history.
Copping is the winningest player in school history with 65 victories and counting. She arrived at UAB in 2020 and has been a fixture in the lineup over the last five years. Copping was First Team All-Conference USA selection in 2023 and is a two-time CUSA All-Tournament Team honoree. She is currently 16-7 on Court 1 this season and is approaching more single season school records this year. Copping will end her career with her named etched all over the record book and will graduate as one of the top players in program history.
Ennis also arrived in 2020, and following a redshirt season she worked her way into the back of the lineup and has ascended into a dominant Court 2 blocker for UAB this season. Ennis currently has 51 career wins, which is fourth most in school history and she ranks top 10 for career wins on courts two, four and five. In 2022 she had 18 victories, which is the eighth most in a single season at UAB and she currently has 13 victories and counting this season.
Pertuit joined the Blazers for the start of the 2022-23 season and made major contributions in her time at UAB. Pertuit has played on Court 1-3 for the Blazers and currently has 36 victories midway through her second season. Last year, Pertuit tied the single season school record with 22 wins and this year she has 14 and counting. Including her two years at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Pertuit has over 70 collegiate wins.
Infante joined the Blazers this year as a graduate transfer from FIU and has played the majority of the season on Courts 5-6 for the Blazers. She is 2-3 overall this season with her first collegiate victory coming over Southern Miss on March 16. Her impact has gone well beyond the courts as she has made an immediate impact as an amazing teammate.
The Competition:
It will be a very competitive weekend for the Blazers, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Top 20 National Rankings for the second consecutive week. UAB defeated Southern Miss 4-1 in March but will look to avenge a loss to Mercer from two weeks ago.
North Alabama is 15-9 overall and its top two pairs are a combined 31-12 this season, making for a huge matchup on Sunday afternoon between the top two teams in Alabama.
Food Trucks:
There will be food truck options both days for fans to enjoy. Saturday will feature Taqueria Gama and Terrific Treatz, while Sunday will be Bougee Foodie.
Up Next:
Following this weekend, UAB will make the return trip to North Alabama on Tuesday for a round-robin against UNA and UT Martin, followed by heading to Tulane on Saturday for two matches against the Green Wave and No. 6 Cal Poly.
