UAB Beach Defeats UNA and UT Martin in Florence

FLORENCE, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team defeated both North Alabama and UT Martin on Tuesday at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts in Florence.
Down 2-1 against UNA, UAB rallied with victories on courts one and two, including a come-from-behind three set victory on Court 2 from Jessica Ennis and Isabel Day to secure the match.
The Blazers are now 17-12 overall and have two regular season matches remaining before heading to the Conference USA Tournament in Louisiana.
UAB 3, UNA 2
UAB and UNA were tied at 1-1 after the first flight with Olivia Stant and Sadie Sharpe prevailing in three sets on Court 4, 20-22, 21-19, 15-9.
Following a UNA victory on Court 3, UAB tied up the match at 2-2 with a Court 1 victory from Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas, 21-19, 21-11.
With all eyes on Court 2, Ennis and Day dropped the first set 21-11, but rallied to win the set second in dramatic fashion 27-25, then dominated the third and decisive set 15-9 to give UAB a 3-2 win.
UAB 4, UT MARTIN 1
The Blazers raced out to a 2-0 lead with win a straight set win on Court 4 from Stant and Sharpe (21-17, 21-14), followed by a three-set win on Court 5 from Lauren Mohler and Addison Atkins, 13-21, 21-15, 15-8.
Copping and Haas dominated Court 1 for their team-best 20th win of the season, 21-13, 21-9, while UAB's Court 3 pair of Brooke Pertuit and Olivia Chychrun also made quick work of the Warhawks, 21-11, 21-10.
UT Martin took Court 2 in straight sets, but the Blazers won the overall match 4-1 to cap a perfect 2-0 day.
The Blazers are now one win away from tying the school record for wins in a season and two away from the new record.
Up next, the Blazers head to New Orleans on Saturday for one day of competition against Tulane and No. 4 Cal Poly.
