UAB Sets School Record; Advances to Day Two of CUSA Tournament

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The UAB beach volleyball team set a school record with its 19th win of the season and advanced to day two of the Conference USA Tournament after a 1-1 day at Sugar Beach in Youngsville, Louisiana.
The Blazers (19-14) opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Tulane, then advanced in the contenders bracket with a 3-0 victory over Tarleton State. The Blazers will face either FIU or Florida Atlantic on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in an elimination match. FIU and FAU open day two of action at 8:30 a.m.
Against Tulane, the Green Wave won on courts two, four and five. With the tournament being played to decision, the matches on courts one and three were left unfinished.
In the afternoon match against the Texans, UAB's Court 5 pair of Addison Atkins and Ashley Torsone gave UAB its first point, followed by Brooke Pertuit and Olivia Chychrun also winning in straight sets on Court 3.
With UAB one point away from the win, courts two and four finished simultaneously and were both credited with a win despite the final score of 3-0.
