Blazers to Compete in Samford Multis/Invite

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Track & Field team returns to action on Thursday, January 16 and Friday, January 17 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The Blazers last meet came on December 6 in the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker. That meet saw five Blazers break into the top 10 all time in their respective events.
Freshman Destiny Roper burst on the scene in her first collegiate meet. Roper won her heat in the 60m prelims (7.53), and finished third in the 60m finals. Roper's time in the semis is the 7th best time in the 60m in school history.
Roper is also tied for the ninth best time in the country for a freshman in 2024-25 and tied for 61st overall.
Noelle Hambrick also had a strong showing in her first collegiate meet. The freshman from Bremen, Georgia set the 6th best pole vault height in UAB school history (3.55m).
The Blazers had a duo of high jumpers that also made school history. Senior Olivia Beard placed 3rd overall at 1.65m, which is 6th best all time at UAB. Freshman Hope Foster placed 4th coming in at 1.60m, which is 10th best.
Birthe Franck-Petersen continued to make her case for the best thrower ever at UAB. The senior from Norway now holds seven of the top 10, including the top four shot put throws in UAB school history. Her December 6 throw came in at 12.86m, which ties her for 3rd all-time.
Thursday's meet will feature Christiana Mudd, Juliana Patton, and Olivia Beard competing in a pentathlon. Thursday's pentathlon consists of the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800m sprint. Thursday's pentathlon starts at 10 a.m. Friday's meet features the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and throwers. Friday's meet starts at 10 a.m.
