Patton and Beard Cap Solid Day at Samford Multi

BIRMINGHAM - Two UAB Track & Field athletes delivered impressive performances on Thursday at the Samford Multi at the Birmingham Crossplex. Juliana Patton finished 2nd overall in the pentathlon with an overall point total of 3272.
Patton and Olivia Beard each participated in five events. Patton set the tone for the Blazers' success by finishing 5th overall in the 60-meter Hurdles, clocking a personal best time of 9.40 seconds. Patton also set her personal best by .24 seconds.
Meanwhile, Beard made a statement in the High Jump, claiming 1st place with a mark of 1.61 meters (5 feet 3¼ inches). The senior is now tied for the eighth-best high jump in UAB school history.
Patton also placed 1st in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.57 meters (18 feet 3¼ inches). The freshman set a new personal record, surpassing her previous best by .21 meters.
Patton wasn't done yet as she placed 3rd overall in the 800m with a time of 2:28.59.
The Blazers are back at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday for the Samford Invite. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
