ABOUT ALABAMA A&M
The Bulldogs from Huntsville are led by interim head coach, Louis Whitlow. AAMU finished 1-2 this past weekend at the Cactus Jack HBCU Classic in Houston at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros. After dropping games to Prairie View A&M, 10-6, and Jackson State, 6-3, on Friday and Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated Grambling State on Sunday, 15-14. AAMU is predicted to finish 10th in the SWAC. Outfielder Brycen Hammonds was named 2nd Team Preseason All-SWAC last week.
SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all time series against the Bulldogs, 19-3, and 16-3 in Birmingham.
CD NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Junior right-handed pitcher Colin Daniel has been named American Conference Pitcher of the Week after his performance on Saturday in a 7-6 victory over Towson. The Preseason American Conference Pitcher of the Year tossed seven innings and allowed two runs in his season debut while striking out four, walking one and earning the win. Daniel faced four batters or less in five of his seven innings of work on just 87 pitches. He forced a ground out on 12 of his 21 outs. This is the first time Daniel has been named American Conference Pitcher of the week in his career, and the fifth conference honor overall.
NEW SEASON, OLD FACES
The Blazers have 25 newcomers on this year's roster, but it's been the returning players that have started the year hot. Logan Braunschweig batted .500 in Charleston, going 5-for-10 in three games with an OPS of 1.643 and added four runs scored, four RBI, two doubles, and an inside-the-park home run.
Gavin Lewis Jr. also had a good weekend in the Lowcountry. The senior shortstop went 4-for-13 with five runs scored, four RBI, and a double. Tyler Waugh went 3-for-7 with five RBI, three runs scored, and a home run. Nick Hollifield went 3-for-8 with three RBI and two runs scored.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Senior OF Logan Braunschweig has been a force on the bases since his arrival in 2022. The Alabaster, Ala. native has reached base in 31 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the American Conference.
THE JUCO ROUTE
With 23 players departing from the 2024 team, Casey Dunn looked to the junior college ranks as he brought in 12 players for the 2025 campaign. The 2025 roster includes Ryan Olson (Chattahoochee Valley CC), C.J. Ellis (Central Alabama CC), Wesley Helms (Shelton State CC), Patrick McGlon (Southern Union CC), Matthew Roncalli (Northwest Mississippi CC), Jaden Anderson (Southern Union CC), Nathan Shelton (Shelton State CC), Wesley Moore (Central Alabama CC), Landon Carroll (Wallace State CC), Caleb Pittman (Shelton State CC), Todd Clay (Pensacola State JC), and Blake King (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) all played junior college baseball in 2024.
