Blazers Drop Midweek Game to Jacksonville State

BIRMINGHAM - UAB Baseball (15-10) dropped its third straight game on Tuesday night to Jacksonville State (16-9) by a score of 4-1. The Green and Gold left eight runners on base on the night.
Both teams were held scoreless in the 1st inning. The Gamecocks got busy in the top of the 2nd when Cooper Blauser roped an RBI double to score Brady Thomas from first to put JSU up 1-0. The next batter was Drew Collins who singled through the right side to score Blauser from second. Two batters later, Ace Williamson doubled home Collins to cap off the 3-run top of the 2nd for JSU.
The Gamecocks would add to their lead in the 4th inning. With two outs and two strikes, Caleb Johnson singled to score Grayson Ashe from second to put JSU up 4-0.
Five UAB pitchers would blank the Gamecocks in the final five innings of play and only allowed one hit in that same span. Ryan Olson struck out three in his two innings of work.
The Blazers would get their lone run of the game in the bottom of the 7th when pinch-runner Mayes White scored from second on a Gavin Lewis Jr. RBI single.
Maddox McDougall earned his second win of the season by pitching five scoreless innings and allowing one hit. Jackson Sleeper picked up a nine-out save out of the bullpen.
UAB travels to Wichita State this weekend to take on the Shockers.
