UAB Drops Regular Season Finale at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – UAB men's basketball (20-11, 13-5 AAC) fell at Tulane (18-13, 12-6 AAC) by a score of 85-68 on Sunday afternoon to close the regular season. Ja'Borri McGhee led the Blazers with 25 points while all five Tulane starters finished in double figures.
The Blazers got off to a poor start for the second straight game, falling behind 16-3 to open the game. UAB then chipped away at the Green Wave lead, getting within one possession at the 7:08 mark after Lendeborg knocked down a three.
Tyren Moore tied the game with 4:34 to go, knocking down a three in the corner to make it 29-29. He then gave the Blazers their first lead of the game with a midrange jumper on the next possession.
UAB extended its lead to as many as four points, but a Tulane three with a minute to go in the half cut the score to 38-37 where it would finish at the half.
Ja'Borri McGhee got started early in the second half with a three-point play and he worked to keep the Blazers in the game. UAB was unable to get stops on the defensive end in the second half as Tulane started to make a move.
The Green Wave went on a 15-3 run to take a 67-53 lead with 8:07 remaining in the half as the Blazers began to struggle on both ends of the floor.
McGhee got UAB back within 10 points after knocking down a three to make it 71-61 with 5:24 left in the contest, but Tulane responded with three-straight triples to regain control and put the game away.
The Blazers fell 85-68 in the regular season finale after trailing by as many as 22 in the second half.

- UAB will be the No. 3 seed in the American Conference Tournament and open play on Friday, March 14 at 8 p.m. CT against the winner of the East Carolina-UTSA game.
- Ja'Borri McGhee scored over 20 points for the third straight game, finishing with 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting. He scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half.
- Yaxel Lendeborg moved into seventh on the UAB all-time blocks list and his 325 rebounds this season are tied for the third most in a single-seeason in UAB history.
- Tyren Moore scored 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
- UAB is 1-4 when scoring less than 70 points this season and 2-7 when scoring less than 80 points.
