Blazers Drop Late Inning Game at No. 15 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA - UAB Baseball (19-18) dropped a tight game at 15th ranked Alabama (30-8) on Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Despite the loss, the Blazers outhit the Tide 8-7.
Alabama got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd when Will Hodo singled home Jason Torres to give the Tide a 1-0 lead.
The Green and Gold answered back in the top of the 3rd when Logan Braunschweig singled to score Alex Cheeseman from second to tie the game at one apiece.
The Blazers took the lead in the top of the 5th when Wesley Helms hit a sac fly to center to score Cheeseman to give the Blazers a 2-1 advantage.
The lead would not last long as the Crimson Tide took the lead in the bottom half of the inning by way of a 2-run home run from Brennan Norton and put Alabama up 3-2.
UAB tied the game again in the top of the 7th when Todd Clay singled home Braunschweig to knot the game at three.
Alabama took the lead back in the bottom of the 7th when Garrett Staton homered to right field to put the Tide back on top. Then, Richie Bonomolo Jr. doubled to left center to score Norton from first to put the Tide up 5-3.
Aeden Finateri, JT Blackwood, and Carson Ozmer combined to get the final nine outs of the game and held the Blazers to just two hits in the last three innings.
Ryan Olson, Caleb Pittman, Brendan Conner, and Braxton Shelton each contributed scoreless outings for the Blazers.

- Logan Braunschweig extended his on-base streak to 65 games and also reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances. Braunschweig also tallied his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season. Braunschweig stole his 20th base of the season as well.
- Nick Hollifield recorded his 10th multi-hit game of the season. The junior catcher has reached base safely in 16 consecutive games.
- Tyler Waugh upped his on-base streak to nine games by way of a hit by pitch.
- Todd Clay now has a 4-game hitting streak courtesy of an RBI single in the 7th inning.
