Beach Volleyball Heads to Myrtle Beach for Chanticleer Challenge

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team continues action this weekend, April 4-5, at the Chanticleer Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C.
The Blazers (11-9) have four matches this weekend starting on Friday with College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina, followed by Saturday contests against Lynchburg (DIII) and UNC Wilmington.
Friday:
College of Charleston – 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT
Coastal Carolina – 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT
Saturday:
Lynchburg – 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT
UNC Wilmington – 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT
UAB is coming off its toughest stretch of the season in which the Blazers have played six ranked opponents in their last nine matches. Last weekend in Arizona, UAB defeated conference foe UTEP, but fell closely to No. 19 Washington, 3-2, and also lost to No. 12 Arizona State 5-0 and No. 13 Grand Canyon, 4-1. Despite that, the Blazers are receiving votes in the AVCA National Rankings for a third-consecutive week.
UAB's Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant went 3-1 in Arizona which included nationally ranked wins over Washington and Grand Canyon which earned them Conference USA Pair of the Week. The duo is now 15-5 overall with all their matches coming on the top court.
Haas' final win last weekend against Grand Canyon was her 50th career Court 1 victory, becoming the only player in program history with 50+ Court 1 wins. She is now tied for third overall in career wins at UAB with 56 and boasts and overall record of 56-29 midway through her junior year. Stant has 42 career wins and four more victories will move her into UAB's career Top 10 for wins.
The Blazers are a combined 11-6 against the field this weekend. UAB holds a 6-3 series advantage over College of Charleston and is 3-1 against UNC Wilmington. UAB and Coastal are tied 2-2 in the all-times series and this will be UAB's first match against Lynchburg.
