UAB Loses 3-1 to Mean Green

DENTON, Texas. - UAB Volleyball fell to 0-2 in American Conference play with a 3-1 loss at North Texas, Sunday afternoon. The Mean Green notched 13 blocks, the most allowed by the Blazers this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Texas dominated offensively in the first set, tallying 18 kills compared to UAB's eight. Despite, the Mean Green's offensive output, the Blazers kept the set tied with mini runs throughout the set. UAB led at he media timeout, 15-14, before either team took three-point runs. UAB and North Texas traded points to a 21-21 tie where North Texas took a four-point run to set point, finished off by a Loredana Founoji kill to seal the set for North Texas.
The Mean Green utilized a six-point run to pull away from the Blazers in the second set, taking a 13-8 lead. A four-point run later in the set gave North Texas an eight-point lead. North Texas was able to cruise to a 25-18 set victory.
UAB began the third set with a five-point run, giving itself a lead it would hold until a five-point run from North Texas tied the set at 14. After a lone Blazer point the Mean Green went on a five-point run to take a 19-15 lead. Down 21-17, the Blazers won eight of the next nine points to comeback and win the set, winning the last six points in a row.
Tied 6-6, North Texas made a three-point run which was just enough to pull away from UAB for the set. Widening the lead to as much as five and as little as two, the Mean Green was able to hold its for the remainder of the set, winning 25-20 to seal the match.
STANDOUTS
Summer Snead tallied seven kills on 14 swings, hitting .500, the best among qualified Blazer hitters. Snead also notched a career-high seven blocks.
Jorda Crook led the Blazers with 12 kills, the ninth time she's led UAB in kills this season.

The Blazers return home to Bartow Arena, hosting a pair of Texas opponents, Rice and UTSA. UAB and Rice are set for a 7 p.m., first serve on Friday, October 3, before hosting the Roadrunners at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 5. Rice and UTSA both lost their conference openers before winning today.
