Blazers Rally Late to Earn Draw Against Tulsa

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team battled back late to earn a 1-1 draw against Tulsa on Friday night at PNC Field.
The Blazers (4-3-2, 1-1-1 AMER) found the equalizer in the 89th minute when freshman Diego Quevedo scored his first career goal to pull UAB level at 1-1. Quevedo's goal capped a late push from the Blazers, who recorded three shots and two corner kicks in the final five minutes.
Tulsa (3-3-4, 1-1-2 AMER) opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Luc Achermann-Stanfield converted a penalty kick to give the Golden Hurricane a 1-0 advantage.
The Blazers continued to apply pressure in the closing minutes. Carson Brice registered a shot in the 87th minute before Humphrey Doh forced a save from the Tulsa goalkeeper moments later. UAB's pressure paid off in the 89th minute when Quevedo found the back of the net to bring the Blazers level at 1-1.
Goalkeeper Ethan Schulz kept the Blazers within striking distance throughout the match, making seven saves, including four in the second half. Tulsa finished with 17 shots, including 11 after halftime, while UAB recorded 15 shots and eight shots on goal.
UAB finished with five corner kicks, including four in the second half, while Tulsa recorded seven corners. Both teams finished with seven saves.
The Blazers return to PNC Field on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they host Belmont. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
