BIRMINGHAM – UAB football travels to Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the renewal of the Battle for the Bones at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
The Blazers enter the matchup at 3-2 overall following Saturday's 33-14 victory over Samford, their second consecutive win.
Saturday marks the 19th all-time meeting between UAB and Memphis. The Blazers hold an 11-7 advantage in the series after defeating then-No. 22 Memphis, 31-24, last season at Protective Stadium. The victory returned the Battle for the Bones trophy to Birmingham for the first time since 2011.
The rivalry dates to 1997, with the programs meeting annually from 1999-2012 as members of Conference USA before being reunited in the American Conference. UAB won seven consecutive meetings from 2000-06.
The Battle for the Bones trophy was introduced in 2006 and celebrates the barbecue traditions of Birmingham and Memphis. The unique trophy is a bronzed rack of ribs, with UAB winning the inaugural Battle for the Bones, 35-29, at Legion Field.
Saturday's game will be UAB's second appearance on ESPN this season after the Blazers defeated Navy, 24-20, on Sept. 25.
