Recapping the Weekend at the Music City Invite

NASHVILLE – UAB Track & Field had another successful weekend with numerous personal bests and school history top 10 finishes.
Victory George picked up where she left off last weekend as the senior jumped into seventh all-time in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.85m. This is the second straight week she has eclipsed her personal best and the second time this season she has jumped over 5.8m.
Additionally, George also qualified for the 60m semis after she ran a 7.71 in the prelims. Jordyn Dortch also ran an impressive 60m prelim and qualified for the semis for the 60m as she finished right behind her teammate at 7.72 seconds.
Sarah Hopkins' incredible true freshman season continued this weekend. The Bonita Springs, Florida native upped her personal best once again as she finished with a mark of 15.71m. Hopkins extended her 3rd-best Weight Throw in school history.
Sangie Lincoln-Velez extended her nice stretch of recent meets this weekend. Lincoln-Velez finished the 1 Mile race in 4:55.50 which is good for 7th-best in school history. Lia Castillo also broke the sub-5 minute threshold coming in at 4:58.21.
Kelly Hughes, a true freshman from Mount Sinai, NY, broke the school record in the 600m on Friday night. Hughes completed the race in 1:35.05. Last week, Hughes jumped to 3rd-best in the 600m.
Katie Keur ran the 5k for the Blazers on Friday night. Keur smashed her previous indoor 5k personal record by more than two minutes as the junior finished in 17:04.51. Kenlie Nelson also beat her personal best by almost 40 seconds as she finished the race in 17:22.31.
Keur and Lidia Longo started Saturday off for the Blazers in the 3000m race. Longo (8th) finished in 9:53.34 and Keur (9th) finished in 9:55.30 out of 65 competitors.
Sangie Lincoln-Velez's hot weekend continued as she placed third in the 800m race on Saturday. The senior from Auburn finished the race in 2:12.29. Lia Castillo finished split seconds behind her teammate at 2:12.37, placing fifth overall. Both Lincoln-Velez (7th) and Castillo (8th) both find themselves in the top 10 in school history in the event.
Jasmine Dereje turned in an impressive finish in the 400m race. Dereje finished fourth overall with a time of 57.31. Dezire Gee recorded her season-best in the race coming in at 58.20.
Brenna Dutcher eclipsed her personal best on Saturday as she slowly approaches the 12m mark. Dutcher finished with a mark of 11.97m.
Blazer Pole Vaulters Fiona Eastman and Noelle Hambrick each turned in identical 3.72m finishes on the day resulting in a tie for fourth place in the event.
To cap off the weekend, the UAB 4x400 team consisting of Jasmine Dereje, Leticia Quingostas, Gabby Washington, and Jordyn Dortch ran their season-best on Saturday. The quartet clocked a time of 3:48.25 which ranks 10th best all-time in school history.
