Men’s Basketball Makes More History on the Road

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (18-10, 9-6 American) beat Memphis (12-15, 7-7 American) 78-67 in an early Sunday morning game in Memphis, Tenn. This was the first time in 27 years that UAB has beaten the Tigers in Memphis, Tenn. Chance Westry (23) and Evan Chatman (22) led the Blazers and combined for 55 of UAB's total points. Chatman recorded eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks while Westry added six assists, four rebounds, and five steals.
Memphis shot 4-for-18 from three-point range with just 22.2 % makes. Dug McDaniel (19), Sincere Parker (13), Julius Thedford (12), and Curtis Givens (11) all scored in double-digits for the Tigers.

- UAB has won nine straight road games (eight in conference) and have a 9-2 road record during the 2025-26 season. The program record of road wins in a season was set in 2015-16 with 10. Nine ties the 2nd most road wins in a season with the 2009-10 Blazers.
- The Tigers had won the last six games against UAB and had an 18-game winning streak in Memphis. The two teams have played 27 games in Memphis with the Tigers winning 25 of those, including a now 14-1 record in the FedEx Forum.
- UAB last won in Memphis, Tenn. in 1999.
- Evan Chatman scored 18 first half points, which ties Ahmad Robinson for the 2nd most in a half this season by a Blazer. Chance Westry had 21 points in the 2nd half against High Point.
- Evan Chatman and Chance Westry combined for a 10-of-10 start from the field.
- Chatman has eleven 10-point games this season and this was his 5th straight.
- Chatman recorded a career high in points with (22) surpassing his earlier career high against Cleveland State. He also made nine field goals which is the most in his career.
- Tonight marks the 5th time UAB has made 6+ three-point shots in a half this season. The most was eight against Tulsa.
- This is the 16th 5+ assist game for Westry and second straight. Westry posted a career high in steals (5).
- UAB had a significant first half advantage in the steal department (11-4) favoring the Blazers. Memphis fought back in the second half but still ended with five less steals than UAB (12-7)
- UAB shot 46% from the field (27-for-59), 32% from three (6-for-19), and 72% from the free-throw line (18-for-25).
- Memphis scored first before a Dayjaun Anderson three-point shot [3-2].
- Evan Chatman grabbed his third rebound within the first four minutes of the game. Chatman threw an outlet pass to Westry who drove into the lane for a reverse layup [7-7].
- Chatman impacted the game early on the three-point line as well when he made back-to-back threes with 13:06 in the first half. Those two shots and a Chatman jumper forced Memphis into a timeout. [19-15].
- UAB got out to its largest lead of the game thus far at 10 after a 10-4 scoring run [29-19].
- Chance Westry put the Blazers up 17 when he got fouled and made the basket [42-25].
- UAB started the half on a 5-2 scoring run when Chatman started where he left off. He scored the first two points of the half for UAB [51-32].
- Memphis went on two 4+ scoring runs early in the second half to cut the UAB lead to 11 with 12:43 to play [57-46].
- Memphis cut it to five on a Dug McDaniel three-point shot [64-59].
- Daniel Rivera then grabbed eight straight points for the Blazers, including three electric dunks [68-61].
- Rivera's last dunk was the last UAB field goal made in the game. There was still 4:45 on the clock, but UAB relied on the free throw line to score 10 more points.
- UAB held Memphis to just six points the last 7:04 of the game.
- Final score: UAB 78, Memphis 67
