UAB Takes Game Two at USF, Secures 25th Win of 2026

TAMPA, FL – UAB Baseball clinched the series against South Florida (26-12, 6-8) on Saturday afternoon after a 12-6 victory in game two. The Blazers (25-14, 10-4) tallied 16 hits in the game, falling one short of tying the season-high.

UAB scored first for the second time in the series as the Blazers tallied three runs in the top of the second. Andrew Hunt ripped a 2-run home run to left field for his fourth home run of the season to give UAB a 2-0 lead. After two more hits in the inning, Kevin Hall Jr. brought home Max Price to put the Blazers up three through two innings.

USF bounced back for three of its own in the bottom of the third. A bloop double and a UAB error gave the Bulls two on with no outs. Jevin Relaford scored from third after an RBI groundout by Gabe Graulau and Ryan Pruitt singled on the ensuing pitch to put the Bulls within one. The next batter, Lance Trippel homered for the second time this weekend to tie the game at three through three innings of play.

The Green and Gold recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth. The 2-out rally started with a Wesley Helms single and Max Price was hit by pitch. Baylor Roberts then singled home Helms to put UAB in front, 4-3. The rally continued as Kevin Hall Jr. was hit by pitch and Price scored on a wild pitch. John Paul Head hit his 14th home run of the season for a 3-run home run to extend the Blazer lead.

The Bulls plated a single run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Jake Kulikowski.

In the top of the seventh, Max Price tripled to left on a failed diving attempt by USF to plate Brady Waugh and Andrew Hunt. The triple was Price's first as a Blazer.

USF answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout by Gabe Graulau.

The eighth inning featured the Green and Gold pushing across two more runs courtesy of a Brady Waugh sac fly and an Andrew Hunt single to extend the Blazer advantage to seven.

The Bulls got one run in the bottom half of the ninth but it would not be enough as the Blazers clinched the game and the series on Saturday afternoon.

NOTES
- The Blazers' pitching staff has gone 18 consecutive innings without allowing a walk.
- UAB scored 10+ runs for the 14th time this season. It was also the 14th time the Blazers recorded more than 10 hits in a game.
- With two home runs, the Green and Gold have now tied the BBCOR era school record with 54 home runs in a single season, tying the 2022 team.
- Andrew Hunt and Max Price tied for the team lead with three hits apiece. Hunt recorded his 10th multi-hit game while Price picked up his fourth.
- John Paul Head, Brady Waugh, Wesley Helms, and Baylor Roberts each tallied two hits of their own.
- Carter Samuelson tossed a career high six innings pitched and held a 70% strike percentage in the game en route to his first career Quality Start.
- Riley Miller pitched the final three innings for UAB which gave him his third save of the season.

UAB and South Florida will play the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT on ESPN+.
